Trailers | Tax, rules on trailers would improve safety

Re: Feb. 2 letter from W. Cary Rowell, “We need better government, not more taxes.”

It is clear to see you have never driven behind a trailer that has no lights, or directionals, or is carrying a large load of material that extends beyond the the length of his trailer with no flag showing its end. Not too terrible in day light but very dangerous at night.

If it were inspected and taxed that would not be the case. Every business has an overhead and if you weigh the cost of the tag and inspection against an accident that could cost days lost on the job, repairs and possible loss of life and limbs, they would be ahead of the game for far less money than the cost of preventative action.

Rather than be affronted by people who move here from other states with constructive ideas that they know work, why not take it as a learning lesson to save lives, and increase monies for safer and better roads?
