Episcopal rift | Editorial cartoon misses the mark

Published: February 6, 2013

I have long appreciated Robert Arial’s political cartoons, but on Feb. 3 he misfired badly. He asks the question “How can we tell who has seceded from the Episcopal Church?” and then puts the rebel flag under the “Diocese of South Carolina.”

His answer seems clearly wrong. Who has seceded from whom? I am not a member of the Episcopal Church, but I am an interested observer. It seems to me the “rebels” in the Episcopal Church are those who have determined to abandon the Church’s centuries-old teaching and application of Holy Scripture.
