MYRTLE BEACH — While searching for a fugitive in Horry County, police arrested two other men on drug charges, said Sgt. Robert Kegler with Horry County police.

On Tuesday, Horry County officers, deputies with the Horry County Sheriff’s office and agents with the U.S. Marshals went to Longs where a tip from a resident led authorities to Richard Earl Hemingway.

Hemingway, 24, of Longs was wanted for failing to appear for attempted murder, said Jeff Benton, spokesman for the Horry County Sheriff’s office.

In addition to being charged with failure to appear, he is charged with trafficking heroin, possession with intent to distribute cocaine, simple possession of marijuana and resisting arrest.

Perry Lamont Jones, 38, and Ralph Cleodus Willard, 27, of Longs, are charged with trafficking heroin, possession with intent to distribute cocaine and simple possession of marijuana. Willard is also charged with resisting arrest. All three men remain jailed at J. Reuben Long Detention Center.

Hemingway was with others at a shed on Reno Circle and fled when he saw police, Kegler said.

He and another suspect were caught after a lengthy foot chase, while the third person was arrested at the shed. Kegler said illegal drugs were found in plain view inside the shed and two men were carrying guns, one of which was stolen.

Police seized 9.7 grams of crack cocaine, 14.7 grams of heroin and 1.7 grams of marijuana and $1,144.
