Tip of the Week With Brad Redding (Feb. 6)

The need for speed

All golfers want and love to hit the golf ball farther. One of the key ingredients is for the golf club to travel faster. A lot of juniors don’t have the arm, wrist and finger strength to swing the club faster. As a result, they will try to use their body, which only leaves the club behind and it moves slower. I will do a drill where I stand in front of them as if I am a mirror. I will make swings and they will watch me and copy me. Kids are great imitators. I will coach them along to make that club go faster and faster. They will feel their legs “fasten” to the ground to help them increase the speed of the club. This will help strengthen the muscles in their arms, wrists and fingers.
