A Conway man was charged with taking a 69-year-old woman’s purse last month as she waited in a pharmacy line inside Wal-Mart, according to authorities.

Danny Wayne Burgess, 28, of Conway was booked at 3:40 p.m. Monday into J. Rueben Long Detention Center on a charge of purse snatching and is being held pending a bond hearing, according to jail records.

Horry County police were called about 3 p.m. Jan. 4 to Wal-Mart at 151 Myrtle Ridge Drive after a 69-year-old woman had her purse stolen from her pocket as she waited in line at the pharmacy inside the store, according to the police report.

A loss prevention employee was able to retrieve video of the incident and track the suspect walking into the men’s bathroom after the incident, according to the report. Another employee found the woman’s purse in the bathroom, but it was empty.

The victim said she had $91 cash, some loose change and identification and other cards in it, according to the report. The woman said she remembered a man with a leg brace in line behind her.
