We are victims of our own success

February 4, 2013

Washington does not have a clue on how to correct our problem. Medical research has advanced the lifespan of older people, way beyond retirement age, another 15 or 20 years. This creates a huge problem for Medicare, Social Security, Medicaid and other senior needs. These costs are tremendous.

Automation has reduced the work force beyond anyone’s imagination, with farm automatic equipment, auto plant automation, automatic checkout machines in most large stores. Even meter readers have been eliminated; it’s done now by computer. Computers handle millions of chores that were done by humans in the past. Production lines separate, count, seal and package. Automated phone calls answer questions and give answers. You experience it every day. Elimination of these jobs devastates our ever expanding population. `

The rest of the world suffers from the same problem we do. I see no solution. Our skilled people are displaced by automation. We keep taking from the people that still have jobs, forever raising their taxes in order to give to the millions that are not working. In years to come the work force will not be able to support the unemployed. Then what? Riots, mobs demanding this and that, governments overturned. I fear for our future.

We can save the immediate future by drastic cuts in our bloated government agencies and relax some of the most restrictive punitive regulations fostered on our industrial complex. But alas, I feel the solution comes too late. God help us.
