Obama flights come at excessive cost

Published: January 30, 2013

President Obama is flying to Las Vegas (a 9 hour roundtrip flight) to give a speech on immigration. The Air Force estimates a cost of $182,000 per hour to fly Air Force One. Thus, the cost to taxpayers is in excess of $1.6 million! This does not include ancillary costs while in Las Vegas. Is this spending our money wisely?

Would the same trip be made if the president was required to reimburse the government 50 percent of the cost out of his own pocket?

The writer lives in Murrells Inlet.
