Those who work in hospitality can check out the latest products and services in the industry during a show in Myrtle Beach this week.
The Hotel, Motel and Restaurant Supply Show of the Southeast kicks off at noon Tuesday and runs through Thursday at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. Hundreds of exhibitors will show off items such as furniture and cash registers and talk about services such as insurance. Four lending institutions also plan to be there, which organizer Myra Starnes of Leisure Time Unlimited says is a positive economic sign.
“To me it says the economy is getting better,” she said.
The show also is a time for chefs to show off during several cooking competitions. About 36 chefs from states including Alabama, Florida, the Carolinas, Georgia and Massachusetts will participate in the American Culinary Federation’s Hot Food and Cold Food competitions.
And at least 18 chefs from across South Carolina will be cooking up dishes they hope will get them the win in the Third Annual S.C. Seafood Challenge. The winner will go to New Orleans to represent South Carolina at the “Great American Seafood Cook-off” national competition, which officials say will be taped to air on the Food Network and crown the “Best Seafood Chef in America.”
The free supply show is open only to members of the hospitality industry.
Show hours are noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday.
