Take away incentives for illegal immigrants

Re Jan. 22 guest editorial by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, “Imagining Immigration Reform”

So let me get this straight. The Republican Party should grant amnesty to 11 million illegal aliens, then sit back and watch the votes roll in? Well, Virginia, as long as “Santa Claus” is on the ballot with promises of free health care and free citizenship, he is going to win against anyone promoting the rule of law, fiscal responsibility, and protection of out of work Americans.

The Republican Latino vote percentages in the prior eight presidential elections were 31, 44, 35, 21, 25, 30, 34, and 37. “W” got the 44 percent. So Romney’s 29 percent is a surprise and it’s time for Republicans to abandon common sense?

This economy can’t survive an influx of legalized law breakers to compete for the few jobs available, and consume a disproportionate amount of welfare dollars. Instead Republicans need to negate “Santa’s” promises and remove other incentives that draw and keep illegals here.
