MYRTLE BEACH — A Conway man is free on $4,500 bail after his 23-year-old girlfriend reported he kidnapped her and threatened to kill her because he suspected she was cheating on him, according to a police report.

Jermaine Stefan Hills, 33, of Conway was charged with second-degree assault and battery and kidnapping, and was booked into J. Rueben Long Detention Center at 8:59 a.m. Thursday, according to jail records. He was released at 5:06 p.m. that same day on bail.

The charges stemmed from Horry County police being called at 10 p.m. Dec. 27 to a home on Reba Road near Conway where the victim went seeking help after she jumped out of a vehicle and ran away from Hills, according to the report. The victim said Hills came by her home and asked her to ride to the store with him. They have been dating for about five years.

The victim said once in the vehicle Hills drove by the store and took her cell phone while he accused her of cheating on him, according to the report. The victim said she tried to get the phone back, but he refused.

The victim said she tried to jump out of the truck when Hills stopped for a traffic signal, but he grabbed her and held her, according to the report. The victim said Hills threatened her with a razor blade if she called police and drove her to a dirt road and stopped the vehicle.

The victim said Hills got out of the truck and yelled for her to do the same, according to the report. The victim said she jumped out and ran into a wooded area and went to a nearby house where a woman called police.

Officers took the victim to the police department and began investigating the incident. Officers did not find Hills in the area.
