Non-shaggers left out by restaurants, clubs

January 22, 2013

I spend my time going to the local restaurants, nightclubs and other establishments in the North Myrtle Beach area several times a week. I have many friends there and we get together often. When the shag crowd comes to town for the weekend or the week, many of my normal hangouts charge for entrance or require that you have an SOS card. I believe the current fee for the card is $35.

I realize it is a large source of revenue for some of these establishments and it is only right that they do so, however as a local who goes to these establishments I resent having to pay when I support them all year long, not just one weekend. I support the Toys for Tots program, the Wounded Warriors projects and a myriad of other good causes. I resent the fact that I have no standing in the community during the shag events throughout the year if I do not have the card.

I feel that if I have no standing on these dates then these establishments have no standing with me and I will no longer frequent them during the down times.
