A mall security officer, while on duty and in uniform, was arrested Saturday when she tried to steal jewelry from the Steinmart at the Inlet Square Mall, according to an Horry County police report.

Shawn Lynn Westover, 42, of Myrtle Beach is charged with shoplifting. She was released from J. Reuben Long Detention Center about 4:30 p.m. Sunday on $500 bond.

A loss prevention employee saw Westover select jewelry, remove a tag and place the tag back on the rack while putting the merchandise in her pocket, the report said.

She was cooperative when the employee approached and detained her in an office at the store, and had signed a form acknowledging that she had shoplifted before police arrived, the report said.

The jewelry cost about $35.
