Thanks for officer in Carolina Forest High

Published: January 12, 2013

In my 60 years I have never written a letter to the editor. I feel so strongly about this issue however that I must.

The incident concerning Trevor Varinecz and the school resource officer is indeed a tragic one. However, who is to blame? The parents for providing a bayonet as “protection” for their son? Either parent for sending a child to public school instead of enrolling him in special education due to his problems? Who better to assess a change in mental state or increased anxiety or fear than the parents? Obviously one of them knew he had fear and was being bullied at school.

Who is being punished and rewarded? The school resource officer has to live with taking a person’s life in order to save his own and protect the remainder of the students at Carolina Forest High School. The school system and law enforcement are being punished for what was done correctly. Look at Sandy Hook and the outcome there.

According to the media, both had Asperger syndrome. My hat is off to the school resource officer.
