What’s with the attacks on the hybrid cars in the broadcast news lately? Last night it was suggested that the cars be changed to add noise when they are moving, because when they are running on battery power, some people don’t hear them coming and might walk in front of them. The other day it was proposed that owners of hybrid cars pay a road use tax, since the cars don’t use as much gas and as a result, don’t pay as much in taxes as regular cars.

Maybe we should go back to the horse and wagon days -- plenty of noise, and free fertilizer as well. Although, come to think of it, we already get lots of free fertilizer on broadcast news.
