CAROLINA FOREST — Marisa Runyon came up clutch for Carolina Forest on Friday.
Runyon hit a three-pointer with 10 seconds left in overtime to send the game into double-overtime.
Ultimately, though, it was Ashleigh Turner’s successful lay up attempt with three seconds to go in double-overtime that gave the Panthers a 49-48 win over South Florence in a Region VI-AAAA match.
“It was a great team win. Im so proud of the girls,” Panthers coach Stacy Hughes said. “The last two games we really came out hard. We’re learning to win games and fight until the end. I’m really proud of the kids.
“It was exciting. We’re young, so this was big for us.”
Turner finished with 14 points, eight rebounds and seven steals and Runyon poured in a game-high 20 points. Cristina Wright contributed with 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Panthers, who are now 2-0 in Region VI-AAAA.
