Aynor teen hit by car dies

An Aynor teen was killed Wednesday night after he was hit by a car in Dillon County, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol.

Triston Loomis, 15, died from injuries sustained in the crash, said Dillon County Coroner Donnie Grimsley. Loomis’s grandparents live in Dillon County, Grimsley said.

The crash occurred about 7:15 p.m. Wednesday in the westbound lane of S.C. 9 about a half mile from the Dillon city limit, said Lance Cpl. Sonny Collins, with the highway patrol.

Collins said Loomis “darted” in front of a car traveling west when he was hit and killed. No charges are expected to be filed against the driver and the crash remains under investigation.

Teen charged in June carjacking

Police charged a North Carolina teen Thursday for allegedly being one of three people involved in the June carjacking of a Canadian man.

Christopher Tewan Vereen, 18, of Whiteville, N.C., was charged with carjacking. Shaquille Oneal McArthur, also 18 of Whiteville, was charged with carjacking on Nov. 20. A third suspect has not been charged, according to online court records.

According to a Myrtle Beach police incident report, officers responded to the Jamaican Inn at The Caribbean Resort and Villas on June 28 for a reported disturbance. The officer spoke with a Canadian man, who spoke only French, and his wife who translated for him.

The victims told police that the man went to his Dodge Caravan at about 11:50 p.m. when he was approached by three male suspects, one who began to choke him. The man said he fell unconscious and when he woke up his keys and van were gone.

He received minor injures and was treated at the scene.

An investigation led police to file charges against Vereen.

Man accuses girlfriend of abuse, gets arrested

A Myrtle Beach man told police his girlfriend attempted to stab him when he tried to break up with her, but officers arrested him on domestic violence charges when they say his story didn’t add up.

Marvin Eugene Killian, 46, was charged with criminal domestic violence.

According to a Myrtle Beach police incident report, an officer responded to the 600 block of Chester Street at about 4 a.m. Thursday for a “suspicious call.”

The officer spoke with Killian, who told police that he and his girlfriend have lived together for a couple of years and when he told her he wanted to break up, she tried to stab him, according to the report.

He said he hit her in self defense and got the knife from her. The officer said Killian had a cut on his jacket but it did not appear to be made by a knife, which was found in his pocket, according to the report.

The officer spoke with the woman who said Killian hit her in the face when she told him she no longer wanted to be in a relationship. A witness told the officer that he saw Killian and the woman arguing in front of his home and saw him hit her. The witness also told police that he never saw a knife but did see Killian rip his own jacket and say he would tell police the victim tried to stab him.

Couple escapes fire through window

Two adults escaped out of a bedroom window after a fire claimed their Nichols home early Thursday morning, fire officials said. No injuries were reported.

Firefighters responded to the 2000 block of Housand Loop in Nichols shortly before 3:30 a.m. to extinguish the fire, Horry County fire spokeswoman Leslie Yancey said.

Fire investigators determined the cause of the fire, which began in the living room, to be accidental. A more specific cause wasn’t available. The home suffered heavy fire damage, displacing the couple who lived there.

Cash register found in grass

An empty cash register drawer was found early Thursday morning in Myrtle Beach, police said.

According to a Myrtle Beach police report, officers recovered the drawer to a cash register shortly before 1 a.m. Thursday in the grass near Third Avenue South and Oak Street.

Police said there had been no reported burglaries in the city limits at the time the drawer was found.
