High school roundup: North Myrtle Beach girls, boys reach Shootout By The Sea finals

— The Chiefs can make history Saturday.

Both the North Myrtle Beach boys and girls basketball teams won semifinal games on Friday night to advance to their respective championship games in the school’s very own Shootout By The Sea holiday tournament.

The girls beat South Florence 46-35 and the boys topped Nation Ford 58-56 to set up a Saturday in which both teams are in the finals for the first time.

Marcie Chestnut had 14, Ja’Quella Livingston had 11 and Taylor Allman had 10 as the girls squad (8-0) continued its undefeated start and will face Goose Creek in Saturday’s final slated for 6 p.m.

Jaquan Grissett and Matt Lindsey had 17 points apiece and Josh Lindsey added 13 as the boys advanced to the final, where they will face Summerville at approximately 7:30 p.m.

CresCom Bank Holiday Invitational

• Myrtle Beach 60, C.E. Murray 47 | The Seahawks weren’t going out empty-handed.

Tanisha Brown had 18 points and 13 rebounds and Nakia Black added 12 points and nine rebounds to help the Myrtle Beach girls basketball team defeat C.E. Murray 60-47 in a consolation bracket game of the CresCom Bank Holiday Invitational on Friday at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center.

The Seahawks – who had lost their first two games of the tournament – dominated the paint against C.E. Murray, outscoring the War Eagles 36-14 and outrebounding them 66-27.

Kiana Adderton (11) and Nia Sumpter (10) joined Brown in double figures in rebounding.
