— Myrtle Beach police took a juvenile girl, who was reported missing from Kansas, into custody after an officer found her sleeping in a vehicle outside a Wal-Mart store, according to a police report.

Officers were called about 1:45 a.m. to the store parking lot because someone reported a person looking into vehicle windows, police said.

When officers arrived they met a 34-year-old man who said that he and two others with him on a trip from Tennessee to get some belongings from a storage unit, according to the report. A 26-year-old man and the girl, whose age was not listed in the report, were sleeping inside the vehicle.

The 34-year-old man told Myrtle Beach officers the girl was his daughter, according to the report. Officers checked the men through the National Crime Information Center and cleared them, but their vehicle was linked to a missing juvenile from Kansas.

Police woke the girl, who matched the description of the missing juvenile, and learned she had been living with her adopted parents, but after she got upset with them over personal differences, she called her biological father and ran away to live with him, according to the report. The girl said she had been with him for about a week.

Officers took the girl into custody and contacted local and state juvenile officials, according to the report. Police learned from Kansas officials that someone will pick her up. No other details were listed in the report.
