Teen dies from blow to the head at nightclub

Authorities say a 19-year-old Benedict College student has died after collapsing at a nightclub in Mullins.

Investigators said Keivonte Waters appeared to suffer some kind of blow to the head early Sunday morning and died a short time later at the hospital.

Mullins Police says Walters was involved in some kind of disturbance, but they aren’t sure exactly what happened.

An autopsy has been ordered to help determine the cause of death and whether the case is investigated as a homicide.

Rock Hill

Police say woman’s death is a homicide

Police say the death of a 76-year-old woman in her Rock Hill home appears to be a homicide.

Investigators say Cora Campbell’s body was found Friday after family members called police concerned they had not heard from her in four days.

Authorities have not released how Campbell was killed or any evidence that led them to believe she was slain by someone else.

Campbell’s death is the seventh homicide in Rock Hill this year.

Aiken

Man found dead in car at convenience store

Aiken County deputies say a man has been shot to death in a car at an Aiken convenience store.

Investigators said officers called to a disturbance at the Lucky 7 store around 7 p.m. Saturday found the victim dead in the driver’s seat.

Witnesses told deputies the men appeared to be arguing before the gun was fired, and the shooter ran away.

Investigators say they are trying to identify the suspect and figure out what led to the shooting.

Zebulon

Johnston County deputy shoots man with machete

Authorities say a Johnston County deputy shot and killed a man who ran toward him with a machete.

Investigators say the officer was sent to a home south of Zebulon around 1:30 a.m. Saturday to break up a fight between two men.

When the deputy arrived, authorities say one of the men ran at him with the large knife. The officer shot him, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The names of the deputy and the person killed have not been released.

Authorities say the deputy has been placed on administrative leave while the State Bureau of Investigation looks into the shooting.

Jacksonville

Marine in N.C. charged with killing fellow Marine

Authorities say a Marine at Camp Lejeune has been charged with murder in the off-base shooting death of a fellow Marine in his same division.

Jacksonville Police said 19-year-old Lance Cpl. Marcus Hunt was arrested after another man was found shot in an apartment around 9:45 p.m. Friday.

Authorities say 21-year-old Randall Buford was shot once in the head. A motive for the killing has not been released.

Military officials say Hunt and Buford were riflemen assigned to 1st Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division.

Hunt is being held in jail without bond. It wasn’t clear if he had an attorney.

Mooresboro

Police: Man charged with killing friend over drugs

Authorities say a man shot and killed his friend after a dispute over drugs.

Cleveland County deputies said 20-year-old Kevin Cole was found dead around 9 p.m. Friday on the back porch of a home near Mooresboro.

Investigators say 26-year-old Matthew Moore was arrested a short time later and charged with murder.

Deputies say that investigators are still interviewing people connected with the case, but they think Moore and Cole knew each other and the killing was over drugs.

Moore is being held in the Cleveland County jail without bond. It wasn’t known if he had an attorney.

Mount Airy

Child dies in wreck involving 15-year-old driver

Investigators say a 15-year-old driver fleeing from police ran off a road and hit a tree near Mount Airy, killing a 9-year-old passenger.

Authorities say an officer noticed the vehicle speeding while heading south on U.S. Highway 52 around 11:55 p.m. Saturday.

Police say the chase went off the freeway, and the driver crashed into a tree, with the vehicle overturning in the Ararat River.

The 9-year-old passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. The 15-year-old driver was treated and released at the hospital.

Police are not releasing the name of the victim or the driver. They say the investigation into the chase and crash are continuing.
