The bridge is dated "2004." Paths have been cut through the thick woods, but now weeds choke the sign posts and push between the gaps in the road. Grass grows over much of the roadway path that would have been a multi-lane bypass. Traffic is directed to choose S.C. 544 north or south as S.C. 31 ends in the Socastee community of Horry County on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012. Phase two of the Carolina Bays Project would have taken S.C. 31 into Georgetown County. A public hearing on the project and widening of S.C. 707 is slated for Tuesday night at Socastee High School.
