Lincoln reminds of historical truths

Re Nov. 26 letter by Bobby Chandler, “‘Lincoln’ a cinematic masterpiece”

Thank you, Bobby Chandler, for the insightful glimpse of Abraham Lincoln. As I read your letter to the editor I was reminded of two truths:

1. We cannot accurately judge history based on today’s values. It must be evaluated in its historic context.

2. It is OK for our heroes to have flaws. The flaws make our heroes real, demonstrate their exceptionalism and remind us that we too can be exceptional and make a difference.
