Published: November 29, 2012

— Someone bought a $2 million lottery ticket in Andrews.

The ticket was one of three in South Carolina that came within one number of winning the record $587.5 million Powerball Jackpot in Thursday night’s drawing.

H & S Shoppe on East Main Street in Andrews sold the ticket worth $2 million, while $1 million tickets were sold in Florence and Rock Hill.

The winner in Andrews purchased a Powerplay for an extra $1 million and matched all five white ball numbers to win the $2 million. Once that ticket is claimed, H & S Shoppe will receive $20,000 for selling the ticket.

The manager at the H&S Shoppe was not available for comment Thursday. The person holding the winning ticket has 180 days from the drawing to claim the prize.

Across South Carolina, 140,000 winning tickets were sold totaling $5.3 million with prizes starting at $4. The $2 million ticket was the biggest winner in the state.
