MYRTLE BEACH — Davis Richards of China Grove, N.C., and Jackson Spires of Fayetteville, N.C., each shot 2-under 70 at King’s North to take the overall boys lead after the first round of the 44th George Holliday Memorial Junior.

Richards was the leader in the 14-15 age group, followed by Trevor Phillips (73) of Inman. Spires led the 16-18 division and was followed by Hutson Chandler (72) of Graham, N.C. Three others in the group were three shots back after 73s.

Kelli Murphy (73) of Elgin was the leader in the girls 15-18 division, followed by Cayla Smith (74) of Easley. Morgan Cox (73) of Easley led the 13-14 division after the first round.
