A pedestrian walking on George Bishop Parkway near Big D’s Barbeque in the Fantasy Harbor area was killed after being struck by a vehicle Thursday night, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol.

A 46-year-old man died from trauma received when he was hit by a car, said Horry County Deputy Coroner Darris Fowler.

The man’s name was being withheld Friday morning as officials work to find the man’s next of kin, Fowler said.

A 19-year-old Conway man was traveling East on George Bishop Parkway at 7:30 p.m. Thursday when the pedestrian tried to cross the roadway and was struck, said Lance Cpl. Sonny Collins with the S.C. Highway Patrol.

No charges are expected to be filed against the man, who was driving a 2005 GMC sport utility vehicle, because the pedestrian was illegally in the road, Collins said. The driver of the vehicle was not hurt in the crash.
