A coastal flooding advisory will be in effect for the Grand Strand on Friday morning, according to forecasters with the National Weather Service in Wilmington, N.C.

Meteorologist Michael Ross said the advisory runs from 7 to 10 a.m. The tide should rise to 7.5 feet in Myrtle Beach, he added, and last for one to two hours.

Coastal flooding around the Grand Strand was a problem throughout the day on Thursday.

A measure at Springmaid Pier in Myrtle Beach Thursday showed the water level was 8.26 feet above tide, meteorologist Tim Armstrong said. He added that anything above 7.5 feet is at flood stage.

“It’s happening all up and down the southeast coast,” Armstrong said.

Armstrong added high tides are the result of a new moon, which started Tuesday.

Horry County Emergency Management Director Randy Webster said there’s been no significant issues or damage because of the flooding, and the office has received no calls for assistance.

Police in Pawleys Island said portions of Myrtle Avenue were closed at 8:45 a.m. Thursday until the water receded.

Flooding also was reported in Garden City Beach, North Myrtle Beach and other low-lying areas along the coast, according to forecasters. Coastal flooding also is expected along the beachfront areas of Brunswick County as the high tide occurs.

Motorists are asked to avoid flooded areas until the tide recedes and to not drive through floodwaters.
