MYRTLE BEACH — W.M. Roebuck Inc. workers could be seen installing a new traffic signal Thursday near Costal Grand mall at Oak Forest Lane and Pine Island Road.

Construction on the $125,000 project was scheduled to end on Nov. 15, with the lights going up around Nov. 20, city of Myrtle Beach engineer Patrick Sadek said in an interview Oct. 22. On Thursday he said the project is still on schedule.

It is hoped that the installation of the light will be complete before Black Friday shopping traffic hits the intersection near Best Buy, one of the worst in Myrtle Beach for accidents, Sadek said.

Sadek said once the light is installed, it will be a flashing yellow light on Pine Island Road for about five days.

“It will let people get used to there being a new intersection there. Then we’ll turn on the timers we’ve programmed,” he said in October.
