Wednesday’s area sports briefs

Published: November 7, 2012

— When the Region VII-AAA girls tennis team was announced, it was no surprise that Myrtle Beach had five players on it.

With the Seahawks’ successful season ending in a disappointing road loss to Hilton Head, some much-needed good news arrived Wednesday. Jessie Dumas, Rachel Berkey, Emma Springs, Carolyn Gore, and Elisabeth Spielvogel were named to the 2012 All-Region roster.

If that wasn’t enough, Myrtle Beach coach Jeri Himmelsbach was named Region VII-AAA Coach of the Year.

Socastee followed close behind, adding Rachel Gresko, Anna-Brice Jordan, Jordan Wesel to the all-region team, while North Myrtle Beach had Amber Mincey and Caitlyn Wolf; and Georgetown’s Anna Walsh and St. James’ Bailee Hunt rounded out the Grand Strand’s All-Region players.
