Conway bar under fire from Coastal Carolina University voluntarily closes

Published: November 7, 2012

A bar near Coastal Carolina University has closed.

Might As Well Bar and Grill, on S.C. 544 at the corner of Cox Ferry Road, has voluntarily closed following discussions with university officials, the 15th Circuit Solicitors office and bar management, said Martha Hunn, spokeswoman for the school.

CCU approached the solicitor’s office in September to discuss pursuing a nuisance action against the club after a history of alcohol violations and the proximity to campus, Hunn said. No formal legal action was taken, and the club decided to close.

“Our role is to ensure that businesses that are patronized by our students follow the rules. CCU will not hesitate to seek enforcement of all state nuisance laws when necessary,” said David Roper, director of CCU’s office of public safety.
