Horry County Schools official appointed to national committee

Laura Farmer, school food service director for Horry County Schools, has been appointed to serve a three-year term for the National School Nutrition Association Policy and Legislation Committee, according to a news release from the district. This committee works to advance school nutrition programs throughout the United States through public policy and legislation.

Farmer has completed 23 years with the school district. She is active in the School Nutrition Association of South Carolina where she has served two terms as president and every office of the executive board. She is currently the chairperson of the association’s Public Policy and Legislative Committee and the Industry Advisory Committee.

Farmer was the first food service director in South Carolina to earn the school nutrition specialist credentialing from the School Nutrition Association in 2004. She holds a Level III certification and is a certified trainer, conducting numerous food service trainings throughout the state.
