— Horry County paid homage Monday to the man for whom the county is named.

County officials unveiled a bronze sculpture of Peter Horry inside the Horry County Government and Justice Center.

Lubbock, Texas artist Garland Weeks designed the bust, while Coastal Monument of Conway created the stone base that it’s mounted on.

On the base are the names of the 1801 commissioners on one side, the names of the 2011 Horry County Council members on the other side and a brief bio of Peter Horry on the front.

The total amount for both the bust and the stone base was slightly above $16,200.
