BURGESS — The cause of a fire that destroyed a mobile home off S.C. 707 Wednesday remains under investigation by Horry County Fire Rescue.
The home, at 9180 S.C. 707, near Bay Road, was unoccupied and nobody was inside when the fire started, said Doug Cline, an assistant fire chief with Horry County Fire Rescue.
The fire was reported at 11:31 a.m. Wednesday and rescue crews from Horry County, Surfside Beach and Murrells Inlet-Garden City responded. The blaze was extinguished in less than an hour.
Emergency vehicles blocked one lane of S.C. 707 towards Holmestown Road during the fire, and officials directed traffic in the remaining open lane. The closure slowed traffic in both directions for about an hour.
