Bank to open first two Myrtle Beach branches

Published: October 23, 2012

A Mullins-based bank plans to build its first two branches in Myrtle Beach in the next two years, the bank said Tuesday.

Anderson Brothers Bank, which already is familiar along parts of the Grand Strand with seven branches in Horry County, has bought land in Myrtle Beach for two full-service branches.

The first branch will be off Farrow Parkway near The Market Common, across from Grand Park. Design of that building is underway with construction expected to start in the summer or next fall, said Bryan Lenertz, Anderson Brothers Bank’s Horry County executive. The branch should be open by the end of 2013.

The other branch is expected to open in 2014 off Robert Grissom Parkway, across from First Presbyterian Church near 38th Avenue North in an area that has become a banking hub in Myrtle Beach. BNC Bank, First Federal and CresCom Bank have offices at that intersection, with TD Bank and South Atlantic Bank also having branches nearby.

The time is finally right for Anderson Brothers Bank to move into Myrtle Beach, with branches in Conway, Little River, Longs, Aynor and others already dotted along Horry County, Lenertz said.

“It sort of fills in their blanks,” he said. “The bank is looking to grow...They just wanted to be cautious. Just being slow and steady.”

Anderson Brothers Bank, a family-owned bank that was founded in 1933, has 20 branches from Horry County and Georgetown to Florence. The bank likely will next expand in Horry County in the Surfside Beach-Garden City Beach area, though no specific spot or timetable has been set, Lenertz said.
