Columbus Day
Horry County Schools and several businesses and government offices will be closed for the holiday. Georgetown County School District will hold classes as usual. For a complete list of closings, see Page 6A.
Taste of the Town
The 29th annual Taste of Town is from 4 to 10 p.m. Tuesday at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. More than 50 Grand Strand restaurants will be on hand offering samples of their top dishes. Tickets are $6 at the door, and children 14 and younger are free. Proceeds benefit St. Andrew Catholic School.
Tax talk
The public will get its first chance to talk ask questions about the proposed 1 cent capital projects tax in Georgetown on Thursday. County Administrator Sel Hemingway will speak at 6 p.m. at Rose Hill Baptist Church, 4572 Rose Hill Road, in Georgetown.
VP debate
Joe Biden and Paul Ryan will take the stage at Centre College in Danville, Ky., to banter why their ticket would be a better choice for the country. The only vice presidential debate of the campaign will be televised on all major networks and cable news channels.
Conway yard sale
The city will have a communitywide yard sale and downtown sidewalk sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
Walk for a cause
More than 2,000 people are expected to take the streets for the American Heart Association’s Waccamaw Area Heart Walk at 10 a.m. Saturday at The Market Common. Participation is free. It is the AHA’s largest single fundraising event and takes place across the nation.
