MYRTLE BEACH — Three suspects robbed two men and a woman at gunpoint early Thursday morning at the Carolina Tarheel motel, knocking one man unconscious with a pipe, police said.
According to a police report of the incident, officers responded to the motel, located at 1801 Withers Drive, at about 2:35 a.m. Thursday after someone called 911 and hung up. Once on the scene officers spoke with a 53-year-old man who said he had been hit with a pipe and knocked unconscious during an armed robbery. He told police his wallet was stolen, which contained some identification cards.
A 44-year-old woman told police she saw a green Dodge pickup truck drive past the motel and the people in the truck yelled something out of the window before returning a few minutes later. She said the driver got out of the truck armed with a pipe as well as two passengers, one who was armed with a black handgun.
The woman told police that the driver hit the man with the pipe, knocking him unconscious. She then threw her money under the car. A third victim, a 41-year-old man, told police that the suspect with the gun threatened to kill him.
Motel surveillance showed a male in a black bandana with a cut-off white shirt and what appeared to be jogging pants. The suspects got away with two wallets and identification documents from the victims.
