Lost cell phone leads to arrest of two for dog fighting in Horry County

Published: October 2, 2012

A cell phone found Sunday by an Horry County Police officer on a road in the Cedar Branch community between Loris and Longs has led to the Monday arrest of two men for animal fighting or baiting, according to reports from the Horry County Police Department.

Leon D.Green, 23, and Byron J. Jackson, 19, both of Loris, were being held in jail Tuesday morning after they were identified by pictures found on the phone. No bail had been set by 9 a.m. Tuesday.

The report said that after the officer found the cell phone on Cedar Branch Road, he looked through to try to locate the owner when he saw pictures of what appeared to be dogs fighting. Further investigation by other officers was able to identify Green and Jackson as two of the men in the photo.

Officers will attempt to identify other individuals in the cell phone pictures and obtain warrants for their arrests also, the report said.
