Three Horry County residents have been arrested in separate incidents of alleged income tax fraud on Thursday, according to the S.C. Department of Revenue.
Those charged are Crystal Zimmerman, 32, of Myrtle Beach, Joe Lewis Williams, 32, and Amy McAllister, 26, both of Conway.
Zimmerman is charged with assisting in the preparation of a fraudulent income tax return and two counts of conspiracy.
She is accused of submitting a fake W2 form indicating she earned $16,899 and had $760 in state taxes withheld, though she did not work for the employer listed on the form.
DOR officials said Zimmerman conspired with a two others to willfully assist in the preparation of the fraudulent tax return.
If convicted, she faces up to $10,500 in fines and/or 15 years imprisonment.
Williams is charged with forgery, assisting in the preparation of a false income tax return and four counts of conspiracy.
Williams is accused of providing a fake W2 form to a tax preparer stating that he earned $15,500 in wages $697 in state taxes were withheld, but he did not work for the employer on the form. He claimed a federal and state tax refund totaling $5,722 which he was not entitled to.
He also is accused of conspiring with others to willfully assist in the preparation of the fake tax return, the DOR said.
If convicted he faces $20,500 in fines and/or 30 years imprisonment.
McAllister is charged with forgery, assisting in the preparation of a false income tax return and two counts of conspiracy.
The DOR said she took a fraudulent W2 form to a tax preparer to have 2011 income taxes prepared, but did not work for the employer listed on the form. The forged W2 indicated McAllister earned $13,200 in wages and had $594 withheld. She claimed federal and state refunds totaling $5,740 which she was not entitled to.
If convicted, McAllister faces up to $10,500 in fines and/or 20 years imprisonment.
All three are being held at J. Reuben Long Detention Center. The identities of the people the three are accused of conspiring with was not identified by the DOR.
