Missing N.C. girl found, Amber Alert canceled

The Amber Alert for a 12-year-old missing from North Carolina has been canceled for the Grand Strand and all of South Carolina after authorities found her safe in Florida.

Abigale Lefevers, was reported missing on Monday and was believed to be with a registered sex offender named Timothy Newman, according to the Carteret County Sheriff’s Office.

Newman, has been arrested according to the Miami Herald, after being spotted in Miami-Dade Wednesday afternoon.

North Carolina authorities on Wednesday, canceled the alert for South Carolina and activated the alert in Florida, before cancelling it all together. Police announced she had been found about 6:30 p.m. in Florida.

Newman was arrested at a Denny’s in Hallandalle Beach, Florida and will be taken to the Broward County Jail, according to the Miami Herald. He was wanted for allegedly abducting Lefevers. It is not known what charges may be pending.

Police tracked Newman’s use of a credit card, that was reportedly used at a Mobil Mart ATM in Coral Gables, Fla.

On Tuesday, the alert was updated suggesting Lefevers and Newman may have been in Myrtle Beach. With knowledge of the waterways, police said Newman may have been at hanging around at the marinas, or using his experience as a truck driver by sticking to back roads.
