Coastal Carolina University
The school’s fall 2012 enrollment is approximately 9,300. The school opened as a branch of the College of Charleston in 1954 and became independent in 1958. It became a regional campus of the University of South Carolina in 1960 but gained independent status in 1993.
Degrees | The university offers 55 academic programs for baccalaureate degrees, with new programs this year in biochemistry, economics, graphic design, information systems and theater arts. There are seven master’s degree, and the school’s first doctroate program – in marine science – is expected to start in fall 2013, pending approval from the S.C. Commission on Higher Education and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
