GREEN SEA — The North Myrtle Beach football team is steamrolling into region play.
The Chiefs finished off their non-region slate on Friday night with a 34-0 victory over Green Sea Floysd to head into conference action at 4-1.
Now, the North Myrtle Beach players have a newfound confidence with a key matchup with 5-0 Socastee up next.
“Our kids are playing with a lot more confidence now,” Chiefs coach Perry Woolbright said. “Now they have some wins under their belt and they see that what they were doing in the offseason is paying off.
“They believe in themselves and when they line up next week they’ll have confidence.”
Chiefs halfback Delonzo Williams had 111 yards on 21 carries and two touchdowns, and quarterback Kendrick Furness was 15-for-23 with 204 yards in the air with two touchdowns to lead North Myrtle Beach.
However, the defense stole the show, allowing just 65 yards in a shutout.
“We came out a little sluggish but we finished the game strong,” Woolbright said. “We played great defense. It was a good way to finish off the non-region schedule.”
It won’t get any easier as the Chiefs open region play, where it appears the top teams in the area reside.
Therefore, a hot start will only help North Myrtle Beach as it tries to show it’s a contender.
“It helps a lot. It gives us a lot of confidence. Next week we’re playing one of the better teams in Socastee,” Woolbright. “It’s going to be a big game. We’ll have to play one of our best games next week. This win right here gives some confidence.”
