Man winds up wet, arrested
Myrtle Beach police arrested a 55-year-old man was arrested after he reportedly went to a pool area and hit a woman in her face, according to a police report.
The victim said Mark Walter Kurtycz of Myrtle Beach interrupted a Labor Day gathering about 11:15 p.m. Sunday in a pool area on 67th Avenue North and took a swing at her. He then slipped and fell into the pool.
The victim and witnesses claim that while they were trying to help him out of the pool, he slipped and hit his head on the deck. Kurtycz told police that someone hit him, although he didn’t know who, and asked to be taken to a hospital.
Police took him to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center, and then to the Myrtle Beach jail. Kurtycz was charged with assault and battery.

Man gives cigarette, gets stabbed
A 34-year-old man was taken to the hospital when he was stabbed early Monday morning by a man who had just asked him for a cigarette, according to police reports.
The man told police, who responded around 1:15 a.m. to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center, that he was walking from a store to his house on Osceola Street when a man approached him and asked for a cigarette.
The victim said he gave the man a cigarette, turned around and continued heading home. The victim then saw the man try to put a knife around his throat. He says he blocked the knife with his left hand and turned toward the man, who then began swinging the knife, cutting him on the top and back of his head, the report stated.
The victim then ran home, where a friend gave him a ride to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center to be treated.
The victim had cuts to the top and back of his head, several minor cuts on his palm, and another cut on his thumb. His wounds required stitches, the report stated.
The victim described his attacker as a white man, possibly in his late 30s, wearing no shirt, with a tattoo of the sun across the left side of his chest, short dark-colored hair, clean shaven, and bags under his eye.

Conway woman charged with prostitution
A 23-year-old Conway woman was arrested for prostitution during a Myrtle Beach police sting Sunday.
Marion Shea Lowther was arrested Sunday afternoon after she allegedly met an undercover police officer in a Myrtle Beach hotel room.
An officer called Lowther last Tuesday at a telephone number she posted on backpage.com under the “escort” section for the Myrtle Beach area posing as “Lauren,” the police report stated.
Lowther agreed to meet the officer in a room at the EconoLodge, 1401 S. Ocean Blvd., and asked for $200 for the session, the report stated.
After the officer let her in the hotel room, Lowther agreed to perform a sexual act and said that she needed to get the “fee” of $200 up front for a one-hour session, according to the report.
The officer and another officer who was in a rear bedroom then identified themselves as Myrtle Beach police officers and placed Lowther under arrest for prostitution.
Lowther was taken to the Myrtle Beach city jail where she was charged with first offense prostitution and driving under suspension. Her S.C. driver’s license was under suspension for a prior driving under the influence charge, the report stated. Lowther drove and parked a red truck in the front parking lot of the hotel, the report stated.

Road work may cause delays
Motorists should expect some road work this week throughout Horry County.
From 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, expect flagging operations for shoulder work on Lakeside Drive in Little River.
There will be moving operations for painting from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Friday on Highway 548, Highway 389, Elliot Road, Alma/Bayview Road and Cherry Hill Road.
During the U.S. 378 eight bridge replacement project, expect flagger operations for periodic daytime lane closures from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Little Pee Dee River Bridge.
