MYRTLE BEACH — CONWAY Coastal Carolina cornerback Dontavais Johnson on Monday was named Big South Defensive Player of the Week and National FCS Defensive Player of the Week by The Sports Network

Johson tied a school record with three interceptions in the Chanticleers’ 29-13 win over North Carolina A&T on Saturday.

Johnson was also named the National Defensive Player of the Week and National DB of the Week by CollegeFootballPerformance.com and the Big South Defensive Player of the Week by CollegeSportsMadness.com.

•  Gary Loebs of Conway teamed with Julia Loebs of Myrtle Beach to win the top senior division championship of the 7th Carolinas Mixed Team Golf Championship on Sunday at Myrtlewood Golf Club.

The duo shot 10-under 66-68–134 to win by eight strokes and earn $150.

North Myrtle Beach’s Beth Umberger and Steve Coldwell tied for second at 2-under 71-71–142 and earned $87.50. North Myrtle Beach’s Chuck Forte teamed with Suzanne Moro of Myrtle Beach to tie for fourth at 1-under 72-71–143 and earn $25.00.
