A Myrtle Beach woman died Thursday afternoon in a two vehicle car wreck in the Garden City area, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol.

Doris Watson, 81, died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center at 5:05 p.m., said Tamara Willard, deputy coroner for Horry County.

She was crossing U.S. 17 on Plaza Drive when she failed to yield and was hit by a 1994 GMC that was traveling south on U.S. 17, said Bob Beres with the highway patrol.

Beres said the 72-year-old driving the GMC was wearing his seatbelt and had a passenger in the car. Both the driver and passenger of the GMC were transported to Waccamaw Hospital, he said.

The crash that occurred about 2 p.m. is still under investigation Thursday night.
