Horry County police met a stabbing victim in the emergency room at Waccamaw Hospital Tuesday night who said he had been cut several times with a box cutter, according to an incident report.
Stephen Lowe, 22, of Murrells Inlet is charged with first degree assault and battery in the stabbing and was arrested around 11 p.m. Tuesday.
The 28-year-old victim told police he had ran into a 19-year-old Amanda Carol Coelho at a Walgreens in the Socastee area. The pair talked, but when he asked the woman if she was dating Lowe she got an attitude and left, the report said.
When the victim got home, he said Lowe attacked him, cutting him several times with a knife, the report said. The five or six wounds were superficial cuts that required several staples at the hospital, according to police.
Police met with the Coelho and Lowe who said they had been meeting with the victim to buy heroin and had paid him $30 but didn’t receive the drugs, the report said. The pair claimed they went to meet the victim to get their money back.
Coelho said they approached the victim and the two men started to fight when Lowe cut the victim several times with the box cutter and the pair left. She told police she threw the box cutter out the window at the corner of U.S. 17 and S.C. 544.
Police searched the area for the box cutter but did not find it, according to the report.
Lowe told police a similar story, saying he was addicted to heroin and that he was standing by at a different location while the woman was trying to buy the drugs.
He said they went to the victim’s home to recover the cash and admitted to swiping at the victim with a box cutter before leaving the area, the report said.
Charges were filed on Coelho was charged Thursday morning, according to jail records. She is charged with accessory after the fact of a felony and is being held at J. Reuben Long Detention Center pending a bond hearing.
