A Myrtle Beach couple was charged after police received conflicting reports about the woman threatening the man with a knife and the man punching the woman in the face, according to a police report.
Jessica Angelia Genopolos, 20, and Edward Preston Driver, 37, each were charged with criminal domestic violence after officers were called at 10 p.m. Thursday to 2202 N. Ocean Blvd., for an assault, police said.
Driver told police he and Genopolos had argued throughout the event and he tried to walk out of the apartment where they were. He said she hit him in the face and back in an attempt to stop him, according to the report. Driver told officers that Genopolos grabbed a knife and tried to stab him, but after questioning he said he cut himself with the knife.
Driver was holding the couple’s 1-year-old child, who did not suffer any visible injuries.
Driver had a bruise on his arm, his shirt was torn and scrapes to his stomach where he said he tried to cut himself, according to the report. He refused treatment from EMS.
Genopolos told officers she argued with Driver because she felt he was abandoning her with their child and she hit him with her fists as he tried to leave, according to the report. She said Driver grabbed her by the arm, threw her on the bed and punched her in the face. She said it was not the first time he hit her.
She had bruises to her arm and her shirt was torn, according to the report. Officers could not determine who the primary aggressor was in the incident and arrested the couple. The child was left in the custody of Genopolos’ sister.
