CONWAY — The search is on for Horry County’s next permanent fire chief.
A job posting for a new chief was uploaded to the county’s website on Aug. 9. The salary range is $69,947 to $104,920.
There was no indication as of Monday how many applications had been received at this point. The close date for the posting is listed as Sept. 7.
Kelly Brosky, with Horry County Public Information, could not comment on the names of any candidates until human resources and county officials had narrowed the field down to the final three.
That leaves it unclear whether interim Chief Kenneth Beans would seek the job on a permanent basis.
However, Beans previously expressed interest in becoming the department’s permanent leader until his retirement in about five years.
Beans was named interim chief April 13 after former chief Garry Alderman announced his request for reassignment because of personal reasons.
Officials reassigned a captain’s position and named Alderman as the county’s Director of Support Services, which will oversee the fire department’s budget, building and grounds maintenance, fleet maintenance, materials management and Information Technology/GIS.
