Donations: Schoolteacher needs old computers, either desktops or laptops, for the classroom. I will pick-up or you can drop off at The Academy of Hope Elementary School, Juniper Bay Road in the former Pee Dee Elementary School building. Call 756-0096.

Donations: Fostering Hope, 1000 Second Ave., Conway, needs back-to-school supplies for children in foster care. Binders, backpacks, paper, pens and more. Call 687-3724.

Volunteers: Mercy Care needs volunteers for a variety of tasks, to include assistance for patients, the Pet Peace of Mind program, the Bereavement Program, office tasks, etc. Call 848-6480.

Donations: The Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach at 409 Bay St. needs bleach, paper towels, kitten food, cat litter, can openers, brooms and dust pans, cat toys, collars and leashes, littler scoopers, postage stamps, HP #60 ink, cat treats, dog treats, catnip, plastic shoe boxes, pet shampoo, newspapers, washing machine, dryer, small refrigerator, shelving, wheelbarrow, lawnmower and dish soap. “Build a Backpack”: Back-to-school supply drive runs through Aug. 31 at Wal-Mart Stores in Leland, Shallotte and Southport, N.C. They are working with Communities In Schools of Brunswick County, Inc. to collect school supplies for area students. Volunteers needed to distribute meals to children: 8:30-9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Mondays through Aug. 17; distribution to those ages 1-18 at various sites in Brunswick County, N.C.: Ash, Bolivia, Ocean Isle Beach, Shallotte and Supply, N.C. Call 910-754-4766 to register.

Donations: The Grand Strand Humane Society is in need of pet food donations: Pedigree dog/puppy food or Purina cat/kitten food. Donations can be dropped off at the shelter Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 11 a.m.-5 pm; Friday 11 a.m.-6 p.m. and Saturday 11 a.m.-4 p.m. For larger donations, pick-ups can be arranged by calling 918-4913.

Donations: The Salvation Army needs donations of gently used/new furniture and clothing (especially for men and children); gift certificates and/or tickets to local events for staff and volunteer recognition; office and janitorial supplies; truck for donation pickups; van/bus to pick up children for after-school program/church activities; $50,000 for an elevator for Boys/Girls Club building so the upstairs area can be used; $10,000 to complete upstairs for children’s activity area; volunteers; food for the pantry; media partner to advertise The Salvation Army Family Stores (radio/TV/billboards); new carpet for Family Store(s); and paint and supplies for walls of Family Store(s).
