A Conway couple, who remain jailed, were indicted by an Horry County grand jury on charges they attempted to kidnapp a 6-year-old girl from her home in March, according to records.

Bill Rex Adams, 23, and Mary Ann Hernandez, 41, were indicted by a grand jury in connection with the March 17 incident at a Conway area home, according to authorities.

Adams was indicted on charges of lewd act on a minor, first-degree burglary and attempted kidnapping, while Hernandez was indicted on charges of accessory after the fact to the charges that Adams faces, according to the indictments.

Adams remains jailed on $301,000 bond on the kidnapping and lewd act charges as well as an unrelated parole violation and driving under suspension charge, according to records at J. Reuben Long Detention Center. Bond was not set on the burglary charge.

Hernandez was released two days after she was arrested on March 17 on $10,000 bail.

A third man was arrested with the couple on an accessory charge, but he was not indicted by the grand jury.

Adams and Hernandez were arrested after police were called at 6:10 a.m. March 17 to a Conway area home for a burglary in progress. Police saw that someone had used a weapon to cut the screen of a front window to get inside the home.

A suspect got inside the home, went to the bedroom of the juvenile girl and rubbed her feet and back while he tried to get her to “go outside and play,” police said. The suspect heard someone in the house and ran out of the house. The person in the house saw the suspect and was able to identify him.

Officers searched the area and found a truck registered to a family member of the suspect, who the homeowner identified, police said. Horry County police K-9 units were called to where the truck was found and tracked the suspect, while other officers went to his home.

During the investigation, police said two people provided false statements to officers about the location of the suspect, who was identified as Adams. While the false statements were being made, police saw Adams in the wood line behind the home.

Adams tried to run away, but police caught him after a short foot chase .
