Volunteers: Mercy Care needs volunteers for a variety of tasks, to include assistance for patients, the Pet Peace of Mind program, the Bereavement Program, office tasks, etc. Call 848-6480.

Donations: Donate your magazines to the Socastee Library after you read them and we’ll make them available for others to read. Just drop them off at the circulation desk. Call 215-4700.

Cartridges: Recycle your inkjet and desk-jet printer cartridges at Socastee Library. Drop off your empty cartridges in either original packaging or in a baggie. We’ll send them to a recycling center. Call 215-4700 or email socasteelibrary@horrycounty.org.

“Build a Backpack”: Back-to-school supply drive runs through Aug. 31 at Wal-Mart Stores in Leland, Shallotte and Southport. They are working with Communities In Schools of Brunswick County, Inc. to collect school supplies for area students. Fans and cans needed: Donation collection sites are any Horry County Family Stores and Strand Styling Studio in The Market Common. Summertime is a time of much demand for both fans, to keep people cool, and nonperishable food items, with more kids out of school for the summer. Volunteers needed to distribute meals to children: 8:30-9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Mondays through Aug. 17; distribution to those ages 1-18 at various sites in Brunswick County, N.C.: Ash, Bolivia, Ocean Isle Beach, Shallotte and Supply, N.C. Call 910-754-4766 to register.

Donations: The Grand Strand Humane Society is in need of pet food donations: Pedigree dog/puppy food or Purina cat/kitten food. Donations: The Salvation Army needs donations of gently used/new furniture and clothing (especially for men and children); gift certificates and/or tickets to local events for staff and volunteer recognition; office and janitorial supplies; truck for donation pickups; van/bus to pick up children for after-school program/church activities; $50,000 for an elevator for Boys/Girls Club building so the upstairs area can be used; $10,000 to complete upstairs for children’s activity area; volunteers; food for the pantry; media partner to advertise The Salvation Army Family Stores (radio/TV/billboards); new carpet for Family Store(s); and paint and supplies for walls of Family Store(s). Donations: Operation Warmup is in need of Bibles, shoes, sandals, flip flops, men’s socks, underwear and T-shirts (L, XL, XXL), bottled water, canned goods that don’t need to be heated or opened with an opener, hygiene products and more. Cellphones: The Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernian’s is collecting deactivated cellphones and name brand cartridges from printers all types (please put ink in bags). You can drop off donations at the Aquatic Center in North Myrtle Beach, or you can call 238-8132 to arrange a drop off. All money collected is given to local charities.

Donations: Friends of Surfside Library needs books, puzzles, DVDs and CDs for monthly book sale. Leave at the Circulation Desk or call 238-5869 for pick up. No textbooks or magazines.
