Man reports fall down stairs at Myrtle Beach motel after laser pointed at him

Published: July 23, 2012

A 50-year-old man told Myrtle Beach police he fell down a section of stairs at an Ocean Boulevard motel after a green laser was pointed at him, according to a police report.

The victim called officers about 2 a.m. Sunday to the Summer Sands at 1500 S. Ocean Blvd., to report he was walking down the stairs from his room on the third floor when the green laser flashed in his eyes and caused him to fall to the second floor, police said.

The victim said the laser came from a room at the Waikiki Village Motel, but he could not describe the person or pinpoint which room it came from, according to the report. The officer questioned a man sitting across Ocean Boulevard, but he did not see the victim fall. The witness said he did see a laser beam in the area.

Officers went to the Waikiki Village Motel and found two men and a woman in the hallway and they said they had a green laser they were playing with, according to the report. The trio told police they knew not to point it any aircraft and said they would put it away for the rest of their stay because of the city ordinance against the laser pointers.

The group said they did not see anyone fall, but that they had pointed at a man who was standing at the rail looking at them, according to the report. The victim declined EMS and requested a report to document the incident.
