Man arrested after firing shot into apartment ceiling
Police arrested a Surfside Beach man early Saturday morning and confiscated 14 weapons after the man reportedly fired a round into his ceiling, according to a press release.
Richard Tillia Morrison, 31, was charged with discharging a firearm into a dwelling, three counts of first-degree assault and one count of possession of marijuana.
Officers arrived at the apartment complex just past 6 a.m. and found three residents standing outside, who confirmed their initial report of a gunshot, the release stated.
Morrison was later found, and reportedly admitted to drinking alcohol and firing the single round into his ceiling.
A search warrant was obtained to look for weapons in Morrison’s apartment. Officers seized thousands of rounds of ammunition, three long guns and 11 handguns, according to the press release.
One of the handguns was a fully automatic .45-caliber weapon that appeared to be properly licensed, as was a suppressor, or silencer, the release stated. All the guns were seized for safekeeping.
Police also reportedly found a small amount of marijuana.
An investigation continues into Morrison’s possession of the weapons, as at least one of the weapon’s serial numbers may have been defaced.
